Written by Simon Ford, Chair of Judges, European Hotel Design Awards
Well it hardly seems as if the dust has settled on the 2012 European Hotel Design Awards and the planning starts again for this year’s event – my last as Chair of the judging panel. Whilst the eligible properties are already complete (and 2013 promises to be another great year) we are reviewing the judging panel, the judging process and the award categories as we do every year to ensure we reflect changes in our industry as well as the feedback we have received from last year to make sure we continue to bring you the best. We are proud that we are one of the only hospitality award schemes to visit every shortlisted hotel but I recognise that getting on to that elusive shortlist can often be tricky. I would encourage anyone considering entering this year to pay special attention to their submissions – think about your audience – hospitality design professionals, not paying guests, and make sure your submission sells the merits of the design not just some flattering marketing photography! It is the recognition and celebration of great hotel design in all its manifestations that lies at the heart of the European Hotel Design Awards, not the glamour of the opening night or a tabletop display.
Programme dates are being finalised as I write this, so look out for details soon. And good luck!
